Hong Kong: An Itinerary

Hong Kong is a gargantuan place in condensed geography. There are endless things to do and to see. Every time you think you’ve seen something that encapsulates the city, a new layer unveils itself.

For planners and semi-planners alike, here’s a full week-long itinerary of highlight things to do on this island.

Day 1.

Check into the classy Hari on Lockhart Road or the welcoming Harbourview both in the locally cheerfully subtle Wan Chai neighborhood. Or, the more bustling foreigner-friendly location of the Mandarin Oriental Landmark in Central.

Day 2.

Have an authentic Hong Kong breakfast at Honolulu Cafe on Hennessy Street in Wan Chai.

Start with vintage porcelain and precious relic shopping in Sheung Wan and Central. Stop into Fong Kam Chu on Hollywood Road and Pagoda Gallery on Queen’s Road for exceptionally exquisite finds.

Head to Lok Ku Happy Feet on Lok Ku Road for a life-changing foot massage.

Enjoy Michelin-recommended clay pot rice at Keung Kee on Lockhart Road.

Head over to Central to enjoy some shopping and the bustling scene there.

As afternoon turns to dusk make your way to Madame Fu’s Grand Cafe Chinois for a seductive ambiance and upbeat high tea East and West style.

Walk back to Wan Chai and indulge in some repose.

Enjoy a late dinner at the Japanese Zoku of the Hari.

Day 3.

Stop into Man Mo Temple and immerse in the traditions and perfumed atmosphere.

Make your way to the creative space of PMQ and be sure to go into Studio Ingrid Burgos for some handcrafts from Columbia.

Have a delicious enriched lunch at Kam’s Goose.

Make your way to Central and take the tram up to the notorious Peak! Expect crowds and lines.

Day 4.

Take the ferry from Central over to Cheung Chau Island. The island is its own local ecosystem in addition to being a tourist attraction and the combined atmosphere is wonderful.

Have a hearty street food lunch of Taiwanese bowls and eats, mochi, and dim sum.

Check into the Warwick Hotel.

Hike to the Cheung Po Tsai pirate’s cave on the end of the island and bask in the views, perhaps spot the playful dolphins in the surf. (The cave is minuscule, if you’re claustrophobic, consider the hike there and back without the descending).

Bicycle around the area or dip into the aquamarine waters if the weather permits.

Enjoy a seafront dinner back on the main walkway or foods at the Warwick’s own.

Day 5.

Grab a coffee at a little cafe in town and cruise the stalls and shops of the small streets.

Check out and head to the pier to take the ferry back to HK Island.

Return to your hotel and room service it up or grab something casual nearby. Don Don Donki and Marks & Spencer are reliable grocery stores for snacks and at-home eats.

Day 6.

Head to West Kowloon to visit the M+ Museum and Palace Museum by the harbor.

Head from there to the K11 Mall to get some shopping in, souvenir gifts, and digest the ever-cool installations.

Head to the Temple Street Night Market and tucker into the local delights and drinks.

Day 7.

Peruse Star Street for some special tokens and then make your way to Lee Tung Avenue for sites and more fun treats.

Savor the majestic magic of the harbor one last time on the waters and enjoy a high tea at dusk hour with Aqualuna Cruises.

Day 8.

Enjoy one more hotel breakfast or scoot out to have a Hong Kong traditional with strong milk tea and a choice of savories, or sweets, HK breakfast is so versatile given its history and resulting food culture.

Bid Hong Kong farewell for now…!
