Date Spots (DC Edition)

When there’s time to date in the district, the DC metro does not disappoint. Here are some heavy hitter spots to make date night, or day, exceptional.

Meridian Hill Sunday Morning or Evening Picnic

Malcolm X Park or Meridian Hill is DC locals’ favorite park. It has all the greenery and old brick accents with statues and fountains interspersed throughout. It draws the dog-loving crews. A lovely place for repose or head-banging to some good African drum beats on Sundays.

El Chucho’s

Probably DC’s best casual taco spot, this haunt has a fun bar area with excellent margaritas as well as a second story partially outside and partially inside space. El Chucho’s just feels like the best vibes.

The Coupe

In the same Columbia Heights area as El Chucho’s, The Coupe is one of the most cozy and sophisticated coffee spots in all of DC. It has those humongous perfectly done lattes and a great breakfast, happy hour, and dinner menu. Good drinks and awesome ambiance, booths as well as high bar spots.

Embassy Events

Any of the embassies, or all of them, have particular events based on their countries. These are so fun because you get to learn about the place and also sample a country’s specialty food and drink. There are often installations per the event, sometimes these are the event, or just to rep the country overall. These are memorable occasions and cute date spots.

Politics and Prose

With a couple of locations in DC, 14th Street is one of the best. It’s a delightful bright brunch and happy hour spot alongside well-chosen and current books to peruse and pick up to bring home. Drinks are just ok, but you’re mostly going for the atmosphere and food.

Churchkey

A fun down and rowdy bar that draws a variety of DC bros. The eats are bar food and the drinks are versatile enough to have a couple of rounds. Located on prime real estate of DC, this locale is a great watering hole to hang out at.

Landmark Theater

The Landmark Theaters are special not only because they show cool movies. They show the best movies. They’re also meant to be ultra comfortable and serve delicious food and drinks, it’s an ideal movie theater.

Any Jose Andres

Jaleo, Zaytinia, China Chicano, Bar Mini…! Jose Andres knows how to open a restaurant, more importantly, knows how to serve beautifully delicious food. These are the places to go to share some of the greatest. If your date doesn’t love these spots they aren’t a good date.

The W

With a rowdy fun rooftop vibe with fancy cocktails and bumping bass, you’ll get vistas of classic DC in the background and be amongst a happening crowd.

Lookout in Georgetown

There are a few lookouts over Georgetown that you can walk to. You can see people kayaking and it’s the atmosphere of summer. Bring a bottle of bubbly or a picnic from one of the cheese or wine spots on the main street, lie back, and bask.

The Mall @ Night

It’s not exactly a date spot, but there are so many wonderful things to see lit up in the evening that look different in the day. It can be romantic walking around this area, I suggest stopping into one of the iconic hotels and getting a drink mid-way.

Howard Theater and 9:30 Club

Both theaters are intimate enough to have a good view no matter where you are, and big enough to have a good dance party. Both venues draw a selection of top-tier musicians and groups.
